I'm writing this from a gas station in the middle of North Carolina, coming back from a D-I football program visit, and I’m processing everything that we learned today during this 7-hour solo car ride.
Today, Superhera broke into the next level…
We are proudly partnering with male athlete programs.
As a retired female athlete, it is always easier for me to speak to the trials I see and hear current female athletes going through, but hearing from these football players today made me realize that structural and systemic problems show up for male athletes as well.
‼ Spoiler alert: male athletes have fit preferences, too!
Every football player you see on the field has strategically chosen how they want to look and how they want to be represented, which actually is an indicator of identity.
What are you hearing from your male athletes regarding how their gear influences them?
PLAYER MINDSET
Defensive Tackle on Game Day Confidence
"I have had bad games because I did not feel good in what I was wearing."
🏈 This is what the defensive tackle told me. A D-I football player's performance is affected by how his uniform fits.
We sat down with these athletes, sized them, interviewed them on how their uniforms fit, and walked through every pain point.
With football being the highest-funded sport at most schools, this just shows that uniform fit isn’t correlated with the amount of money poured into that specific program, as most athletes still don’t get custom gear. The fit issues don't disappear with a bigger budget.
These Division I athletes are wearing the same mass-produced sizing as mid-major programs, and they're making mental and physical adjustments before the ball is even snapped.
THE RESOUNDING MANTRA
Uniting Every Locker Room
One phrase continues to be brought up by athletes:
"Look good, feel good, play good." 💪
To the naked eye, this seems like an overused sports cliche, but let’s actually break this down to the granular level.
Look Good: Athletes care about their swagger and about how they represent themselves. Think about Trinity Rodman’s hair colors and Caleb Williams’s unique style. Athletes don’t just express themselves off the field, but through showing up in style on the field as well, they’re showcasing their true, consistent character.
Feel Good: For male and female athletes to feel good on the field, they need gear that fits their bodies and is designed to move and adapt during high-level competition. Fit isn't a nice-to-have, but rather it's part of how they compete.
Play Good: This is what athletes are signed up for, brought in for, and paid to do, but the crucial part of this component is that, without looking good and feeling good, playing good might be a total fumble.

Our study with Notre Dame and Brooklyn College backs this up.
When 587 respondents ranked the most important features for sportswear:

🥈 Feel and Function — ranked close behind
Athletes across sports and genders are telling us the same thing. Fit comes first!
What we heard from the football program aligned with what the research already showed us. It's a pattern across every level: from D-III to Power Five, from women's lacrosse to men's football. Athletes keep saying the same thing: gear that doesn't fit holds them back.
Fit, feel, function, and "look good, feel good, play good" don't just apply to female athletes.
Male athletes feel it too.
